Citizen Base Investment Competition
  Seven organizations were selected as the recipients of the CBIC- 2003.
 

The Citizen Base Investment Competition, 2003, (CBIC - 2003) was launched in May 2003, with the objective of identifying and investing in organizations mobilizing local resources in an innovative and feasible manner. About 30 organizations applied and after a stringent internal screening 12 organizations were shortlisted. McKinsey worked with these organizations during the capacity building workshops, helping them in drawing-up a cohesive business plan. These plans were then presented to the Judging panel comprising of eminent personalities from the social and corporate sector.

Seven organizations were selected as the recipients of the CBIC- 2003. These organizations are at present receiving mentorship from McKinsey Consultants for a period ranging from three months to six months.

The Adventurers, Bangalore - Using adventure tourism as the means to spread awareness about the environment and the conservation of the bio-diversity and cultural heritage of the Western Ghats.


Association for Stimulating Knowhow (ASK), Delhi - Unnati Project – setting-up a collective for women entrepreneurs in Moradabad, as a means to provide an alternate source of livelihood to the families working in the brass industry, thereby weaning away child labour.

Centre for Rural Development (CRD), Guwahati - Rickshaw Bank Project - setting up a Rickshaw Bank, with the help of corporate partnerships, to provide a livelihood to the urban poor in Guwahati, and using that to inculcate sound social practices among the beneficiaries.

Institute for Rural Health Studies, Hyderabad - Karuna Charitable Pharmacies Project - setting up pharmacies in two specialist hospitals in Hyderabad, the profits of which would be used to fund specialized health care for rural poor in Andhra Pradesh.

Magic Bus, Mumbai - Teaching life skills to “at risk” children in Mumbai through the medium of sports and recreation, through a detailed 10 year programme.

NOECR, Kerala - Spreading Awareness about legal rights and duties to the citizens of Kerala, through the publication and distribution of low cost books and pamphlets that make legal information available in an accessible format.
