The Technology Connection
The Innovative Learning Initiative has seeded a partnership between organizations established by 4 Ashoka fellows in the area of technology-enabled learning (TEL).

Ashoka's Innovative Learning Initiative (ILI) aims to launch a new generation of social movements in India that are led by children and young people. By doing so, ILI will shift the thinking in the field about the role of children, educators and youth in social change processes.

The Innovative Learning Initiative will harness the ideas, innovations and efforts of Ashoka Fellows and other changemakers to give children and youth the motivation, skills and tools that they need to launch their own social movements. ILI is thus building long-term partnerships between Ashoka Fellows in the field of learning. Through these partnerships, social entrepreneurs will incubate new programs and processes that are more than the sum of the individual ideas. Through these processes, ILI will also move Ashoka fellows into a rich and robust process of group entrepreneurship.

The Innovative Learning Initiative has seeded a partnership between organizations established by 4 Ashoka fellows in the area of technology-enabled learning (TEL). The collaborators are Doorstep School in Mumbai ; Suvidya , a Bangalore-based organization ; Delhi-based Pravah and Mumbai-based Meljol Hum Bachchon Ka.

Through this partnership, the four organizations are designing a pedagogically-robust and dynamic CD-Rom based  curriculum for teachers  that will equip them o lead social justice education programs in learning communities across the country.

The main objectives of the product that they will be creating are:
· To demonstrate how  IT (information technology) can be a powerful tool for social justice education.
· To deepen teacher awareness and action in the realm of social justice issues
· To build capacity of teachers to link social issues with syllabus-based teaching.
· To empower children to lead social justice education programs by empowering teachers.

The CD will equip teachers to address the broader challenges of conflict management with their students, and to specifically build awareness, knowledge and skills in areas of gender and peace.

The product will be targeted at  teachers of classes VII to X in urban government schools, government-aided schools and private schools that draw students from lower income families. It is specially designed for teachers with teaching experience of 2 to 10 years. Besides schools, ILI will be distributing the product in teacher training institutions also.

The curriculum will be multi-lingual and will be produced in English, Hindi and Marathi to start with. Vyaktitava, a Delhi-based organization with extensive experience in instruction design and IT-based learning processes is bringing its professional expertise to the project.
